Team Michigan.
WOW.
Congratulations from the bottom of my exploding heart.
Your hard work in Michigan paid off IN SPADES.
Michigan Democrats held the positions of Governor, Lt. Governor, Secretary of State and Attorney General. They flipped a U.S. House seat to blue.ย In fact, according to Rachel Gertzog of the Michigan Postcard Project, every district in the state moved bluer.ย
Iโll quote her at a bit more length here:
Two other not inconsequential gains that are, perhaps, the best collateral benefits of your hard work, is that for the first time in nearly 40 years, the Michigan State House will have a Democratic majority and now, the Michigan State Constitution will make abortion a state right. These two gains set a model for more states to include abortion rights in their state constitutions, and as I write, the Pennsylvnia State House is moving toward democratic majortiy as well.ย Imagine what we can do in 2024!!ย
Here is an article about some of what we accomplished in Michigan..ย
Yโall, you absolutely killed it. I am unbelievably proud of you and grateful for all that you did. In general we had an incredible election, but Michigan seriously took the cake.
Iโm going to be more or less retiring this newsletter until early 2024, so if you want to keep hearing from me youโll have to subscribe to my main newsletter, Chop Wood, Carry Water (see below for link). And I hope you do, as our work is far from over. This fight for democracy is a fight we can win, but itโll take time, and perseverance, and effort.
I know youโre up to the challenge. And regardless, thanks for what you did to make these midterms a โshockingโ (not to me!) success.
