It's on!

Hey, all.

Well, everything has changed, and nothing has changed. Biden has dropped out and Kamala Harris is the presumptive nominee. After my first reaction—which was of sadness—I actually experienced a wave of incredible excitement. Something about the idea of a Black/AAPI woman being the one to beat Trump is just delicious.

And beat him she will. Not only because she’s amazing, but because Trump’s plan to make himself a king and take away all of our freedoms has NOT changed.

So let’s get excited, let’s get galvanized, and let’s get to work. I have a really, really important Michigan-related event for you to attend this week, and also an awesome new MI postcarding campaign for you.

First, the fundraiser/webinar:

As the GOP is getting ready to implement Project 2025,  which will eviscerate voting rights and our democracy, Democrats need to do everything we can to protect this election. 

In 2020, Michigan’s Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson  endured armed demonstrators outside her home and received death threats after Trump called her a “Rogue Secretary of State.” For her courage in protecting the election, she received the JFK Profile in Courage Award. Airlift is proud to host Secretary Benson in a conversation about what is being done to protect voters and poll workers and counteract AI misinformation in 2024. 

Joining Secretary Benson will be organizers from We the People Action Fund, whose work was instrumental in fighting back against Michigan’s GOP’s attempts to disenfranchise Black and Brown voters and overturn the 2020 election results. Their organizing was crucial in turning out the vote in hard-to-reach communities throughout Michigan and flipping the state legislature for Michigan’s Blue trifecta. 

Although this is a fundraiser for We the People Action Fund  you do not need to donate to participate. (But I hope you do!)

Now the postcarding campaign:

Beginning in May 2023, Michigan voters can sign up for permanent absentee ballots, allowing them to vote from home in all future elections. Blue Wave Postcards is encouraging those who haven’t signed up to vote from home yet to sign up for permanent absentee ballots.

Encouraging voters to sign up for absentee ballots is the most effective action you can take at this stage of the election year. Voters are much more likely to cast their ballots if they can do so from the comfort of their homes.

Postcards will ship (and be available for local pickup) on 7/29. You must order ther cards, but they come with pre-printed address labels and the script is SUPER short! So easy!
